October 16, 2019: "Forum on What Went Wrong/Right In My Garden"
“What Went Wrong/Right in My Garden?" was a time for asking questions and sharing advice on gardening problems and successes. We can all learn something from doing this periodically, young and old together. Notes on the discussions will follow. As well, Youth Garden Trophies, Certificates and prize money were given out at this meeting!
The highlight of the evening was the recognition of the young people who participated in the Youth Garden Competition this summer. Seventeen youngsters planted and cared for gardens, learning important life skills as they did. Last night we recognised their efforts and presented them with certificates and prizes. There were three categories of gardeners...JK-SK age, Grades 1-3, and Grades 4-8. The judges, Dorothy de Champlain and Lois Dekker, were impressed with the quality of the gardens and offered advice to the young people. All of the children were winners just by learning gardening skills. The judges chose three gardeners in each group whose gardens and their gardening knowledge were exceptional. The winners: JK-SK: 1st: Brooklyn Denomme 2nd: Maggie Marshall 3rd: Leah Fehr
Grades 1-3: 1st: Kyra Shearing 2nd: Carter Regele 3rd: Makayla MacPherson
Grades 4-8: 1st: Aaron Mowbray and Aiden MacPherson 2nd:Chase Hamilton 3rd: Olivia Nemcsok and Nate Hamilton. Other children who participated in the contest were Brynn Warner, Sierra Denomme, Cheyenne Regele, Steven Nemcsok, Liezel Nemcsok, and Lily Fehr. Congratulations to all of the gardeners! (E. Fisher)

August 2019: Field Trip to "Lilley Bee Apiaries"
June 2019: "Pruning Trees and Shrubs": Charlie Warner
May 2019: "Attracting & Caring For Birds in the Garden": Bruce Murphy
We had a nice turnout for our meeting with Bruce ‘The Birdman’ Murphy. Bruce spoke on wide-ranging subtopics about birds and butterflies and we learned some astonishing things. We also had some competitions tonight but unfortunately, due to our late spring, we didn’t have many entries. Thanks to those who did manage to put something in. By the way, for those of you who missed the meeting... the shared snack after the presentation was wonderful! (E. Fisher)
