"Pursuing a Red Ribbon: Preparing Baskets For the Flower Show": Eileen Fisher
On Wednesday, June 19, Eileen Fisher demonstrated the steps in preparing floral baskets, both large and small. For competition, Eileen strongly advised members to consult a judging handbook and to study the Show Schedule governing the classes for competition. She gave hints about things to consider when putting together a basket, presented a few rules and suggestions, and demonstrated the structure of a large presentation basket. Shape, foliage, colour and design principles were discussed. At the end of her presentation, the basket of flowers was given away in a draw!

Carrie Anne, also Second Vice-President of the Society, gave an interesting talk, with lots of concrete examples, of what is new in the plant world at Aidie Creek Gardens this year. With a great display of lilies, dahlias, petunias, a variety of grasses and bedding plants, and much, much more, Carrie Anne described the plants and spoke about the care and appropriate use for each plant. She also invited all E&DHS members to join her for the next general meeting, which will be held at Aidie Creek Gardens. More information will be published in the May bulletin of the Society.
