In Memoriam
Elsie Elyea 1922 - 2015
Our Society received some sad news. A wonderful lady, a Life Member of our Society, a woman whose life centred around her family, her church, her gardens, and the Englehart and District Horticultural Society, has passed away. Elsie Elyea was a an avid and brave gardener, willing to try anything new, from new plants, to new techniques. She even successfully took cuttings from her own annuals, and even rose bushes! Some of us are lucky enough to have plants in our own gardens, as Elsie was generous with her time and her plants. She was a director for many years and also was deeply involved with the Junior Garden programme. Elsie was an amazing floral designer, a brave pioneer with her gardens, and generous to a fault. Although Elsie was a true 'lady', she also had a wicked sense of humour, and enjoyed a good joke. Many members will remember driving out to her yards just to see the expanse of her plantings; others will remember having their wedding pictures taken on her property with her beautiful gardens in the background. She turned many of us on to horticulture, and, in a way, helped with the preservation of our Society. We will miss her! Her tribute may be accessed here at the McDonald Funeral Home.

Munroe Burton 1929 - 2014
Our deepest sympathies to the Burton family. I had the honour of having Munroe as one of my Math teachers and it was his infectious love of Math that made me pursue more Math courses at the university level. He inspired confidence and understanding and showed a genuine love for the pursuit of knowledge. In my younger years as a student, I called him my teacher. In my adult years, through our mutual love of growing, gardening and genealogy, I called him "friend". All of his friends in the Englehart Horticultural Society will miss him, especially wielding his broom and dustpan helping out at all of our horticultural events. (R. Heaslip)

Marie Hack 1928 - 2014
It is with great sadness that we report the death of another one of our long-time members, Marie Hack. Marie was an avid exhibitor who won many awards at our annual flower shows and who loved her yards and gardens. She served on the Englehart & District Horticultural Society Board as a Director for many years and chaired several positions. Both Marie and husband, Clint, received Service Certificates and were given Lifetime Memberships many years ago. Our sympathies to the Hack family. All of Marie's friends at the Englehart Horticultural Society remember her and will miss her.

Englehart Annual Meeting: January 2015
The Annual Meeting started with a delicious Pot Luck Supper coordinated by Ruth Webb. Following supper, the business portion consisted of reports of the year's activities, the financial report, the election of officers run by Twyla Wilson. Eileen Fisher thanked Bruce Wilson for his two years of presidency. Bruce presented Carrie Anne Field with her President's pin. The Fishers then presented a travelogue with slides of their trip to Paris and Strasbourg.
