September 2016: "Succulents & The Jaded Gardener": Deb Murray, Eileen Fisher, Carrie Anne Field
We had a lot of fun tonight at the Jaded Garden Competition, with 22 entries and lots of prizes. Deb Murray and Judy Eastman worked hard to set up the hall in the afternoon (driving up from Haileybury to do so). Some of the classes were: the largest, the 'unlargest', the tallest, the most creative, the healthiest, the prettiest, etc. Carrie Anne Field demonstrated how to turn a pie pumpkin into a beautiful succulent garden, and Eileen Fisher talked about and gave a quick 'fun' quiz about succulents. By the way, there will be another competition next year (2017), and you can use your jade from this year or get a new one from Deb for the grand sum of $1.00. Deb had made three fabulous trophies for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes, which are pictured below. (Eileen Fisher)

June 2016: "Preparing For the Flower Show": in the gardens of L. & E. Fisher
On Wednesday, June 15, the general meeting was held at the home of Len & Eileen Fisher. The theme of the evening was "Preparing For The Flower Show". Rick Heaslip & Eileen Fisher gave hints and suggestions about getting exhibits ready for the Show. Eileen gave short talks on preparing photo exhibits, and preparing basket designs according to the showbook. Rick outlined how to condition, harden and prepare specimen exhibits for the show. C.A. Field gave each of them a beautiful petunia hanging basket. We enjoyed touring around the Fishers' beautiful gardens and enjoyed various delicious treats. Thank you to Len and Eileen for opening up their home and gardens to us!

Thanks to Mary Schippers for the treats, and to Irene Bond as well. (E. Fisher)
